Ardmor House is situated very centrally, a comfortable 15 minute walk from Princes Street (the main shopping area) in a quiet street opposite Pilrig Park. We’re also within a stone’s throw of many great cafes, bars and restaurants (also about 7 minutes walk from the main gay venues!). Getting around town is easy either on foot or by using the frequent bus service which takes you to most parts of town – there’s a bus stop just outside the door! If you’re arriving by car, we have free (24 hours) parking just outside the house and it’s generally very safe to park your car, although as in any city, don’t leave your valuables inside, just in case! Here’s a summary of how to find us – also check out the map for our location!
Edinburgh Airport has several daily connecting flights from the major London airports, as well as other centres around the UK and Europe. From the airport,a taxi will take you door to door to Ardmor house in about 30 minutes and costs about £25. The best alternative is to take the tram. This departs from just outside the airport building, turn left and walk past the taxi ranks. Take the tram to the terminus in the centre of town at York Place (a 40 minute journey)- cost is £5 single or £8 return. From the tram stop, we are about 10-12 minute walk or jump on the local number 11 bus from the bus stop right next to the tram stop. The bus takes you down Leith Walk and turns left on to Pilrig Street- get off at the first stop on Pilrig Street and you are right outside our house- a single bus ticket will cost £1.50. The third alternative is the airport shuttle bus to Waverley train station (about 30 minutes), then a short cab ride (cost about £5), a 15-20 minute walk or catch the number 11 bus to our door from George Street/St Andrews Square or York Place.
Edinburgh is linked to the rest of the UK by an excellent rail network (weather permitting). You can travel directly from London (www.eastcoast.co.uk), Glasgow, and many other cities and towns. Timetables and other rail information can be found at National Rail (www.nationalrail.co.uk). Once at Waverley train station, exit to Princes St., and follow the directions for how to get to Ardmor House by car, or see the map below.
Find Princes Street on the map. The A1 and A68 terminate at the east end of Princes Street. From the A1 you make a right turn from Waterloo Place on to the A900 (Leith). From the A68 you veer right from South Bridge on to the A900. In both cases, carry on down Leith Street until you reach a roundabout. Carry straight over (the Playhouse Theatre will be on your right) until you reach a second roundabout. Again carry straight over, heading downhill on to Leith Walk. Pilrig Street is the third main street on the left (look for the church on the corner). Ardmor House is on the left hand side opposite the park.
